Synergy: North/South Intercultural Initiative
Project description
Irish National Working Group member, the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI) announced the setting up of a new cross-border scheme between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland aimed at tackling the rise in racism.
Entitled the "Synergy:North/South Intercultural Initiative", the project aims to promote greater co-operation to tackle racism and promote practical intercultural programmes.
The project will focus its attention specifically on the border counties between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and will concentrate on the Traveller community, asylum seekers, migrant workers and refugees.
The project has secured funding of €380,000 over three years from a variety of sources including the EU, the Combat Poverty Agency, Co-operation Ireland and Area Development Management. Over 20 organisations including trade unions, community projects and public organisations are involved in the project.
The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dermot Ahern officially launched the initiative.

Project description
At www.diversity-in-europe.org you will find the manual “Different in More Ways Than One: Providing Guidance for Teenagers on Their Way to Identity, Sexuality and Respect” which was developed by a European project-team called “TRIANGLE”, consisting of representatives of eight different institutions from five countries.
The team set out to produce a manual for educators and counsellors on how to deal with lesbian, bisexual and gay issues in multicultural contexts. The manual consists of nine theme guides, FAQs, tips and tools for your work, short stories, background information and much more.
