Fl-artiklu tieghi ppruvajt niffoka fuq il-kundizzjoni tad-‘dementia’ li hi marda inevitabli li twassal ghal nuqqas ta’ memorja. Sfortunatament s’issa ghadu ma instabx kura ghal din il-marda pero` sakemm dan isehh hu importanti li dawn il-persuni ma jintesewx.”

L-oġġettivi prinċipali ta’ din l-ezibizzjoni huma:-

  • Li tippromwovi korsijiet ta’ taħriġ Vokazzjonali lil pubbliku inġenerali
  • Li żżid fl-importanza it-Taħriġ Vokazzjonali kontinwu, lill-oqsma ta’ etajiet differenti, għal suq ta’ xogħol iżjed dinamiku
  • Biex torbot mas-settur ta’ l-Industrija u biex tipprovdi opportunitajiet ta’ kollaborazzjoni ma’ l-MCAST, Il-Korporazzjoni tal-Impjiegi u t-Taħriġ (ETC) u l-Istitu ta’ l-Istudji Turistiċi (ITS)

Madwar erba’ mitt student minn skejjel privati, tal-gvern u skejjel tal-knisja, żaru din il-Fiera kull nofs siegħa. L-istudenti tal-ħames sena sekondarja huma fl-aħħar ġimgħat minn tmiem l-iskola qabel ma jqisu ruħom parti mid-dinja tax-xogħol, u għalhekk kienet opportunita’ idejali biex titkellem magħhom fuq din il-kampanja qabel ma jibdew il-karriera tagħhom fix-xogħol.

Il-Kumpanija Media Consulta Malta ħadmet id f’id ma’ NGO partikolari ta’ din il-kampanja jiġifieri il-Jesuit Refugee Services, għal ċertu materjal użat fuq l-istand. Employment Issues - EU developments and Implications

Andrew Warrington, Media Consulta Malta

Andrew Warrington, Media Consulta Malta

The Malta Employers’ Association organised a seminar entitled Employment Issues – EU developments and Implications on the 30th of March 2005.

The main speakers of this event included the Honourable Dr. Louis Galea (Minister of Education, Youth & Employment), Dr. Roselyn Borg (Executive – EU & Legal Affairs, Malta Employers’ Association), Profs.Barry Fitzpatrick (Head of Legal Policy and Advice, Equality Commission for Northern Ireland) and Ms. Sina Bugeja (Executive Director, National Commission for the Promotion of Equality). Mr. Andrew Warrington, Managing Director, Media Consulta International was invited to give a talk on the EU campaign “For Diversity Against Discrimination”.

The participants in this event included 100 employers’ representatives of Malta’s leading companies. This seminar was a perfect opportunity to address employers directly and point out to them the main elements of the anti-discrimination campaign i.e. discrimination narrows the skills pool from which employers can select potential new recruits. It also damages the interpersonal environment at the place of work and ultimately acts counter to the best commercial interests of the organisation.

The benefits of an active diversity policy were also a key element in Andrew Warrington's speech. Participants were encouraged to visit www.stop-discrimination.info or contact Media Consulta in Malta for further information. Toolboxes were handed out to each participant to encourage them to investigate the benefits of diversity further.

This event was kindly sponsored by the British High Commission in Malta. "Stop Discrimination" thanks the Malta Employers' Association for providing this excellent opportunity for us to deliver our message directly to one of the most important target group of this campaign - the employers.

Anti-discrimination campaign at the Kerygma Volleyball Marathon

This years Kerygma Volleyball Marathon was a fantastic opportunity for the Stop Discrimination Campaign to gain recognition through their ambassador, the popular singer Miriam Christine Borg. Miriam Christine was an obvious choice for diversity ambassador as she is of Brazilian descent adopted by Maltese parents, and even sings about discrimination on her recent album Little Zee.

On the closing night of the event the stadium was jam packed with spectators cheering the volunteers on. Amazingly this year's Marathon ran for over 240 hours, and was televised by 3 of Malta's TV stations. The presenters wore our Stop Discrimination T-shirts, one of which was Peppi Azzopardi, who presents the popular TV show Xarabank. When Miriam Christine was invited on stage Peppi asked her some questions about the campaign and Miriam Christine signed one of our T-shirts, which was then auctioned with the proceeds going to charity.

Later on the Main sponsor of the event Go Mobile, presented their hefty donation cheque, and all too soon it was the end of the event for another year. The Maltese people were very generous and the final amount collected totaled LM 180,000, which will be going to 3 charitable institutions.

GWU holds "For Diversity. Against Discrimination." Seminar

On the 26th of May Malta's largest union, The General Workers Union, organised the seminar "Diversita IVA. Diskriminazzjoni Qatt." (For Diversity. Against Discrimination). The discussion was specifically on the initiative of Salv Sammut, President of the GWU and a member of the NWG.

Michael Parnis, Deputy General Secretary of the GWU is very keen for the GWU to collaborate with MEDIA CONSULTA to promote the awareness of discrimination. His main points were that employers discriminate subconsciously or for their own gain.

Andrew Warrington, Managing Director of MEDIA CONSULTA Malta, then gave a short presentation about the campaign followed by a question and answer session.

Next to speak was Sandro Mangion of the Gay Rights Movement and also member of the national working group. He made the point that gays and lesbians are victims of discrimination at work, so much so, that some of them prefer to be unemployed rather than face the discrimination they are subjected to in the work place.

Tony Zarb, Secretary General of the GWU, concluded the seminar by remarking that unfortunately discrimination exists in one form or another in Malta, whether it is political or between the sexes. He also made the point that discrimination is on the increase. Because of this the GWU has pledged its support to help the campaign in any way it can.
