A new toolbox to help employers and workers learn more about new EU-wide anti-discrimination laws was launched on 27 May 2004 at the Irish EU Presidency conference "Closing the Gap" which is being held in Limerick. The packs which are being produced as part of the 5-year EU information campaign, "For Diversity. Against Discrimination" will be distributed to over 60 000 businesses across the EU over the coming months.

The packs which are being produced in 20 language versions, contain practical information on the new European laws which prohibit  discrimination on the grounds of racial and ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion and belief. According to Barbara Nolan, Head of the European Commission's Anti-discrimination Unit the new packs are "an excellent tool to raise awareness of diversity and discrimination issues in workplaces across the  EU.

The toolboxes give details about the new equality rules, and also information on practical steps that can be taken to prevent discrimination in the workplace. Victims of discrimination can find advice on how to deal with discriminatory behaviour how to approach management with complaints. The pack also provides information for employers on how to help make the workplace discrimination-free.

The toolbox, which has been produced in collaboration with NGOs, trade unions, employers and government departments in EU member states, contains a range of information tools, including a series of fact sheets on workplace discrimination and an 8-minute film on the new legislation.
