[09.08.2006] - Diversity truck tours Europe to boost the EU's drive against discrimination

The EU's Stop-Discrimination Truck heads off on its third EU tour tomorrow 10 August, travelling through 22 cities in 13 countries to promote equal opportunities in employment. On its four-month journey, the 30-ton mobile information platform will visit job fairs, university career days, youth festivals, and companies to raise awareness of the benefits of a discrimination-free working environment. Among other things, the Truck features a mobile 'Ability Park' which puts visitors' senses to the test to highlight the everyday challenges people with disabilities face. To mark Finland's Presidency of the EU, this year's tour starts in Helsinki.

Last call for entries to the "Breaking Stereotypes" EU Poster Competition
Since the launch of the Breaking Stereotypes Poster Competition in mid-February, more than 400 art and design students from all over Europe have followed the European Unions call to join its creative poster competition. As part of its five-year For Diversity. Against Discrimination. campaign, the European Union is inviting art and design students from all Member States to make a creative statement for diversity. The competition is still open for entries until 31 July 2006. Students can enter by uploading their work online or by submitting a CD by post, for entry details see www.stop-discrimination.info
[02.06.2006] - 2007 starts now: 'European Year of Equal Opportunities for All' gets green light
The European Commission yesterday welcomed the decision by the Council and Parliament to designate 2007 as 'European Year of Equal Opportunities for All'. The year will aim to make Europeans aware of their right not to be discriminated against, to promote equal opportunities in areas from work to healthcare, and to show how diversity makes the EU stronger. The year will have four themes: rights, representation, recognition and respect, with a total budget of EUR15 million for the 12 months activities.

The EU information campaign 'For Diversity. Against Discrimination.' has once again teamed up with MTV Networks Europe, to broadcast a new TV ad that features the three winning photographs, amongst others, of a pan-European photo competition to promote diversity in the workplace.

[15.05.2006] - Dutch journalists win this year's 'For Diversity. Against Discrimination' EU journalist award
The first prize of the 'For Diversity. Against Discrimination' journalist award has been won by two Dutch journalists who work for the magazine Vrij Nederland. The winning article deals with ethnic and racial discrimination in the jobs market in The Netherlands. The second and the third prize were won by articles from Poland and Ireland respectively. The award for the photo category also goes to a Dutch journalist of Vrij Nederland. The winners of this year's awards will be officially announced today at a prize ceremony in Brussels by Vladimr pidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
[27.04.2006] - "For Diversity. Against Discrimination." EU Journalist Award launched for third year running

The European Commission has today launched the For Diversity. Against Discrimination. EU Journalist Award 2006. With this award the EU aims to honour those who contribute to a better public understanding of the benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination. This year, for the first time a special prize will be granted to young writers or journalists who write about the topic of combating discrimination and promoting diversity.
